SMS: Hey, your side got power or not?
Me: Got. Power trip?
SMS: My side okay, but quite a bit of area affected.
I looked out the window and saw that the block of flats opposite my house were in pitch darkness. Strange thing is that the next block was all bright and gay. There are also quite a number of people in the police station opposite my house. I think they were there to advice the police on the situation.
I realised that in this situation, I do not have adequate preparation. I don’t think we stock any candles or alternative light source at home except a touch.
Things to get.
1) Candles. Long lasting one preferable
2) Batteries for torches
3) Medical Kits.
What else should you think I should stock in my house?

my mom is paranoid and she has a torchlight in her bag wherever she goes. So the last time there was a wide blackout abt 2 mths ago, everyone was quite prepared and we lighted tealight candles and prayed at the altar. Quite romantic and fun really.

A battery-operated radio, and a battery-operated fish pump, if you have an aquarium. A UPS for your PC/Mac. A 5-hour lantern ($21 at Mustaffa) that uses a fluorescent tube, and can be recharged from the mains (and comes on automatically when power is cut).
