Party like it was 1969…

5 Dec 2004 - Under General By Mandrake

Friday night, the office people sans the bosses went to a pub at Carpenter Street for some booze… thats one of the gathering where we bound as a colleagues without going through obstacle courses (do they still do this?) and running thru jungles. We use liquors instead. So the main idea was to make one of my colleagues drunk. You see, he is really funny when he is drunk. He doesn’t get rowdy, but actually talks sensible nonsenses.

I think between the 8 of us, we went thru more than 12 jugs of housepours and tried to make that guy drink most of it. He drinks it when he misses his turns, when someone misses their turn, or well, when we just get him to drink. In the end, he was really out around 10pm. When he went to the toilet, he was actually laughing at the logo on the urinal. I have no idea why, but thats what make it more funny..

My friends C and A joined us after that and by 1am, most of the colleagues had went off. I think C and A are both party animals. At 2am, when the pub officially closed, they are debating whether to
1) Book a room and get some liquors up in the room.. hmm..
2) Think of some clubs without no cover charge and opens till 5am at least..
3) Sit around and look pretty

In the end, it was (2).. went down to Devil’s Bar and pretend to look bored. A and me were actually checking out the girls standing on the bar top dancing away and we were laughing at them.. no idea why..

I noticed that the waiter behind the bar will ALWAYS come back with the change only when you ask, even when you pay $50 for a $25 drink. Bastards..

While we were standing at the bar, some guy talked to the two gals.. Later they told me the guy told them that he is a loan shark and he is here twice a week. The guy actually look like a decent looking man with a 9 to 5 job..

Halfway thru the night, a girl came up to me and start to dance between me and another guy when its quite packed. She asked me whether I know the guy behind her and I smiled and said no.. and then her boyfriend came over and pulled her away from us *damn him*.. just when she was getting so down to it..

I think they should really really ban smoking at some of the places, I come out smelling like the sweet smell of ash smeared on my body.. sigh.. luckily I don’t have long hair to worry about that.

jeez. if you cant even smoke in a club, what’s the point with doing anything?!
its like limiting’s people’s freedom to do whatever they want to…
like telling someone, hey you can’t dig your nose in a club coz you look ugly doing it and when you flick it around and i step on it, it’d dirty my $600 ferregamo shoes.
i mean they’re smoking and they know the harmful effect of smoking, thats their choice. if you don’t want to inhale second hand smoke, don’t stands so close lar.
i mean you are in a club afterall!
and since you’re in a club, drinking alcohol, which can damage your liver, what’s abit or tar in your lungs.

i mean a club/ bar’s a social place where you mingle/ pose/ pick up people/ appreciate music after all. and people should be able to do whatever they want there. smoke/ pot/get drunk/ puke/ look at girls or boys or both.

don’t like the setting dont go…

its part of clubbing experience. if not just stay home, make your own drinks and put on Pete Tong/ Tiesto/ etc… to create the atmosphere.
save you the trouble of queuing, inhaling second hand smoke, expensive drinks and 18 year old kids in skanky clothes puking infront of you.

Jeez! so much for a tolerant society we have yah.

    /end rant

I only went to devils bar once and swore never to step foot in that place ever again simply for the fact that the ladies there have a penchant to pair striped tights with polka dotted tops AND they go on the bar tops in those outfits to dance like some little hungover ecstacy popping shitheads. very traumatic experience for me!!!

Your comments on smoking… its ok.. I am not offended. I was a non-smoker standing in clubs. To think of you it, is it the smoke that is really bothering or is there something that is bothering you… this is the question you have to ask yourself and answer it yourself.

princess dee > “its like limiting’s people’s freedom to do whatever they want to…”

    pot. kettle. black.

aren’t smokers at a club limiting non-smokers’ freedom to do whatever they want to, i.e., want fresh air without having to accomodate the smoking MINORITY? If clubs in Ireland, England and major cities in USA like NY can have a ban on smoking, why shouldn’t Singapore. It’s not as if we want smokers to not be in the clubs, it’s just that they can have their own smokers’ corner or designated area to puff their lives away. Fair enough?

I have to agree with Princess Dee. Sure, smokers are a minority, but we have already been marginalized by not being able to smoke almost everywhere else - restaurants, cinemas, offices, etc etc. Clubs are the last place smokers have to call “home”, why must non-smokers assert their right to smoke-free air EVERYWHERE? Just because we are a minority does not mean we have to accede all the time.

Idler - I have serious doubts that the US govt has banned smoking in clubs because they are genuinely concerned about the health of their citizens. More likely, they are paying out too much in welfare and health insurance claims.
