Nothing in life is free

27 Dec 2004 - Under General By Mandrake

Today, I called my telco for my mobile to cancel one of my existing line.s I had applied for this line for my mom to use about two years ago. And recently, I decided to cancel this line and sign up with another telco coz of the promotional $200 voucher which they gave. I mean, with number retention, it shouldn’t pose any problem.

Like all companies that requires you to sign up, they will always try to retain you as a customer than to let you go. This is because the cost of acquisition for a company like a telco, ISP or credit card company is always higher compared to the cost of retention. Thats why they always try to retain you if possible, and throw in some stuff like wavier of cost to make you stay.

Anyway, the nice lady chatted with me and asked me why I want to cancel. I told her I have no use for it since I already signed up with another telco. She was trying to get me to stay, and finally, I think she gave me 6 months waiver to the mobile contract for this subline. Thinking about it, it sounds alright to me, since this subline is very cheap. I think I can try for another waiver 6 months later.

One thing though, I think the lady shouldn’t cough into the phone. Not very nice.

Oh, I also got her to waive off my caller ID charge for the next 12 months, previously, they only gave me 3 months waiver. I think in all, I probably saved about $120.

So next time boys and girls, go try to cancel your mobile line and see what they offer you.
