Come back and vote!
My mom and my aunt are pestering me to go back to my home town to change to my new Identity Card so that I can vote in the upcoming State Election. Reason being that my younger cousin is running in it. So the more votes the merrier.
My cousin was in the top school in the home town and after that, went to Australia to do her law degree before returning my hometown to practice.
Well, she is running as the opposition to the current govt and as such is facing big odds. But then this is my home state you are talking about. This is the state that doesn’t have the same state election state as the rest of the country, just because we can.
I strongly believe that if my state and its neighbouring state were to go independent, the country would be in turmoil. Not because of the separation, but the fact that most of the revenue from the natural resources like oil and timber came from these two states.
Someone asked me how come my home state looks so poor. I had to explain the fact that most of the money from the state went to the currnet government to make it look less poor.
Can you guess where my home state is?

Terengganu
nope
sarawak
yeah
My guess is Sarawak. People often forget that Malaysia is more than just a peninsula.
That “going independent with Sabah” threat has been going on for as long as I remember…
yeah.. it had been going on for quite a while. I think Sabah actually wanted it a few years ago.
This an interesting read
She seems like a young girl running for election. Is she?
Sarawak is not poor.
Folks who grow up only knowing big cities (myself included) often make the mistake of associating wealth with big showy buildings and flashy shiny consumer gadgets.
Evie: age wise I guess so. but look at the Singapore female nominated MP, she is also quite young relatively. I guess if she has the ability, guts and will to try it, why not?
knightofpentacles: yeah. I guess its also wealth on a different level too.
Slight difference.
Eunice Olson was “nominated” into Parliament by the rulers. Nobody voted her in.
hmm.. but still about the same age none the less.. see how they fair in politics then.
most of my sarawakian and sabahan uni mate come from a very rich family. either their parents are into timber or rubber.
so…are you going home to vote?
speaking of which, had been a long time since i went back to cat town. thanks for reminding me to change me IC too….
teadog: yeah, am going back.. and to visit the old country as well.
shellfish, I think this is the last year you are given grace to do it, correct me if I am wrong. After that, they will fine you I think.
