Whats in a name?

25 May 2005 - Under General By Mandrake

William Shakespear wrote in Romeo and Juliet that a rose by another name would smell as sweet. Whats in a name anyway?

A friend of mine recently changed his name to better suit his business prospect, or so he says. Well, he has his own reasons, maybe he just doesn’t like his name.

This creates problem for me as I need to change all his contacts to the new name and update it all over the place. I need to open my hotmail, gmail, Outlook and PDA and update all that name.

Not to mention is the fact that I have to mentally re-map all instances of his name to the new one.

I would appreciate it if people stop changing their names that often. It would be so much less trouble.

On the topic of personal info, I have been receiving emails from those websites that claims to keep your info for your friends. That your friends want you to update your info on their websites. If this was a few years ago, I would gladly do it, but now, I rather keep my info to myself than letting it appear on some database that I have no control so that marketing people can sell more stuff to me in future.

    SCENE II. Capulet’s orchard.
    JULIET
    ‘Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
    Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
    What’s Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
    Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
    Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
    What’s in a name? that which we call a rose
    By any other name would smell as sweet;
    So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call’d,
    Retain that dear perfection which he owes
    Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
    And for that name which is no part of thee
    Take all myself.

    Maybe he went to a fortune teller and was told to get his name changed for better luck.

    wow he changed his own name? But it is true, like in that episode of the Simpsons when Homer calls himself “Max Power”. When you change your name into something cool, cool things will happen to you.

    Were you being deliberately ironic by misspelling the bard’s name for this entry, “What’s in a name?” ^.^

    I wanted to have a proper English name since forever.
    But frankly, no matter what I pick, my friends are still gonna say “SO WEIRD! SO NOT YOU!”
    Nabeh. I hate my name.
    Bleah!
