Hi, I am Rar

30 May 2005 - Under General By Mandrake

Friday night, the office people decided to go down to sentosa to have some fun. One of my bosses decided to come along, while the other two had to go back to their family. And since the tab was picked up by the company, the alcohol was flowing. By post midnight, one of my colleagues was drunk and he was spilling out stuff that doesn’t really make sense. We have a habit of making him drink bourbon coke just to see him drunk. He is really funny when he is drunk. After the boss settled the tab and left, we went over to Coaste where I saw miryclay and her interests.

Anyway, the funny part was this story told by my boss.

Rar, my boss’s Armenian husband-to-be is in the ad business. He works for a big ad agency and produced the ads for a particular brand of car. Lets call that company Flanlo. So one day, he was down at Zouk for some marketing bliz and an indian man came over and chatted with him. Rar gave him his namecard and told the indian man what he does for a living and stuff like day.

A few weeks after that, he received an email from this particular indian apologizing profusely about something that Rar has no idea about. The indian man just kept saying that he doesn’t know what came over him and just want to apologize to Rar.

Rar was curious as to what had happened and went down to ask his staff who frequent Zouk a lot.

“Which one of you prevs were at Zouk over the weekend and did something happened to some indian man?”

So one of the staff did and told him the actual story.

The staff and another colleague from Flanlo was down at Zouk having a drink and were trying to pick up two girls. So they told the girls what they do and where they worked.

Girl 1: Oh, you are from Flanlo?! We met your colleague Rar downstair just now. You do know him right?

That got the staff’s attention from the girl’s breasts and they were curious to find out whether Rar was there and went down to investigate.
They were introduced to an indian man with his arms around two gals and with a loud voice, introduced himself as Rar. He went on to introduce himself as the regional head for Flanlo and said exactly the same thing that Rar had told him before. Basically this guy was an imposter who likes to live on other people’s identity. Furthermore, how can an indian man be an Armenian? Thats like saying a Chinese guy trying to be a Cuban.

Anyway, Rar’s staff pulled the indian guy away from the girls and told him that they worked at Flanlo and they know who the real Rar is, so the indian better cut the crap and stop pretending.

And thats how Rar received a strange email from an indian man asking to be forgiven.

I wonder how many people has came across this kind of incident in real life where someone is not who he said to be.

Hehe … I super like his name … Rar, the Conqueror :P

Met/knew of someone like that in Uni. Same hostel. Apparently the guy ran up all these gambling debts and cooked up all sorts of stories to get people to give him money. Was quite nasty.

Its pretty scary when you think of it. No one would know unless events conspire to convict the evil dude.

I can’t think of any offhand, but i think there’s something similar.

Ppl who boast of non-existent achievements and who they are in the company (big-shot, damn big) when they are just some small-fry.

and then there’s always the other end of it. some totally humble and unassuming bloke who just doesn’t want to tell you he’s really some scion’s offspring. :)
