An old lady

17 Jun 2005 - Under General By Mandrake

Previously, I blogged about this little boy. Today, while walking down Orchard Road with C, we came across this old lady waiting by the traffic light outside Paragon. She clunched both her hands as if she has a stroke or something, I do not know whether its real, so I just take it as it is.

While C and me were talking, she just came up to us to ask for some money for food. I looked at her and then asked her whether she really wants food, she said yes.

“Okay aunty, what do you want to eat? I bring you there and buy for you.”

She looks a but stunned after hearing this. Its like she didn’t expect to receive this reply from me. I guess if she does it often enough, the usual replies would either be “No” or someone would just give her some money.

She was stunned for about 30secs and after that, she asked me,

“You are buying the food ah?”

“Yes auntie, so what do you want to eat?”

Upon which she replied with..

“I think its a bit late and you guys are probably going off home, its not nice to disturb you like that. Somemore the food here are quite expensive.”

We walked away after this, never to look back. Like what I said earlier, if she really does want food, I would buy for her, if not, so be it.

Was lunching with someone once we were approached. He offered to buy her food and the old lady actually accepted and asked for chai tao kueh.

Eh.. maybe you could have tried to assure her that you wouldn’t mind affording the food for her..

Yeah, I had a similar experience. The guy who was begging was fat and demanded that if I wanted to buy him food it must be from KFC. I asked him why not I just buy from the bakery across the street… He still insists that I buy him food from KFC in a taunting way. I was totally taken aback and just gave him 60 cents as a disgust offering.

tssss…well maybe the old lady wanted to buy the food later. But hmm…well in Rome I saw TONS of “old ladies” all wrapped up faces and really hunching their back, waddling around with legs in a crooked position. Those were really kind of young women playing a show to earn money from stupid people!!! but so obvious, I almost laughed. Better look next time, ladies.

hmm yeah I guess I’d have done what you did. Once, two girls (the older one was about 15 and younger one about 12?) approached me and my friend at night, saying that they are sisters and that they don’t have their ezlink cards and have no money to go home. They asked if we had 10bucks to spare, and promised to return. I didn’t have to think very hard because we really didn’t have cash on hand. Heh.

haha.. I am not a nice guy, in fact, I look very fierce when I don’t smile. I think the aunty might have felt threaten by my look. C, how do I look when I asked the aunty whether she wants food?
