70s Wedding

13 Nov 2005 - Under General By Mandrake

If I were to have a wedding, I would do it the way one wedding did last night. A themed wedding. The traditional chinese 10 courses dinner style is quite a passe and I am quite against it. One, you don’t get to interact with the people. Two, its boring. Three, you can’t avoid some relatives or people even if you want to.

The wedding I had yesterday was held at an art gallery. As its a themed party, guests are required to dress up in 70s costume according to the theme. I think one must also take note of the people who are coming, whether they are sporting enough to dress up. Well from what I saw yesterday, most of the guests are pretty spotting as most came in the costumes.

Last night, the guests were mingling at the enterance before they are allowed into the dance hall. The dance hall was the main room where they decorated it with lots of disco balls, lights and smoke. Even the wall are covered with some shiny cloths to give it a 70s disco dance hall feel.

As you can see from the pics above, people are literally coming in afros, dye-printed clothes, short skirt, long white boots, you name it, they have it. I saw this big ass afro that is at least a meter tall. There were two people from the group Village People, one is an indian and the other is the one with the leather vests and hat.

You have men in white suit, one looks like he just stepped out from the movie The Wedding Singer. I was laughing myself silly at this guy who came in as John Mcenroe, the former tennis World No.1 with the bad temper.

When its time to go up to the main room, the live band, EIC, started playing hits from that era and everyone starts to dance. There weren’t any kind of those “sit down and let the waiter serve you food that you can guess” situation, it was more like a finger food buffet. I like some of the small finger food, you just pop them into your mouth and continue to party. Alcohol is freeflow as the couple has been stocking up on duty free alcohol for the event.

The noodles come in an interesting packaging which you can either only see on TV or get it in US

I post more pics when I get it next week. Meanwhile here are some more from the chuch event.
