Chasing Amy

If you haven’t seen this movie by Kevin Smith, go take a look. I am not sure whether its available in Singapore, but if it does, don’t hesitate to rent it. Its not a chick flick, but its a very good movie that speaks volumn.

I can’t remember when I’ve seen this movie, but I enjoyed the movie very much as I finally understand certain thing in my life from the movie.

The movie is about two guys one guy who fell for this girl who is a lesbian (I can relate to this, but thats another story). Her name is not Amy by the way. Anyway, its about how these two guys can’t get her and in the end almost ruin their friendship.

I don’t know why I suddenly remember this movie, but the thing that strikes me is the concept of “Chasing Amy”. In the story, one of the guys was saying that a few years ago, he was in love with a girl, till one day he asked too many questions about her past and found out things that he doesn’t want to know. In the end, he can’t accept her and dumped her.

He only realised later that he dumped her coz he was afraid and was not disgusted by her actions. She had moved on from that life and accepted him for what he is. By the time he realised it, it was too late, he had already pushed her away.

Since then, he had spent his waking life “chasing Amy”, its not about chasing that girl that had got away, but more of like the concept of that girl. He is trying to find an Amy in girls that he met.

Its at this point in the movie that I realised what I had been doing for a while and its a relief. A relief to understand why I am feeling certain things that I do not understand.
