Reblog

21 Mar 2006 - Under General, Tech Talk By Mandrake

I used to use Feedburner to read all my RSS subscriptions. Feedburner is not free and its quiet good. The interface is a bit like Outlook Express so most people shouldn’t have problem with it. The memory footprint is also not that high.

I tried bloglines but I find it quite slow. I don’t really enjoy using it somehow. I was looking around for another online RSS reader but Google Reader doesn’t cut it either. Online feed readers has one major advantange over those that you installed on your computer. You can read your feeds anywhere and its updated.

I came upon Reblog last week and I’ve installed it on my server and I am quite glad with it. I can read it at home and at work from my browser. I set it to update every hour. At first I was afraid that the server can’t cope with the amount of outgoing pull, but so far so good.

It uses keyboard shortcut to navigate thru the posts, after a while, its quite fast to look thru and mark each one as read. One of the features is that you can actually integrate into your own blog and then publish it, hence the name “reblog”.

It works on PHP and MySQL. Installation was a breeze. Here are some pics (click for bigger pics).

This looks pretty neat. Makes Gregarius looks a tad bit simple.
