Suicide?

Did I get your attention? I bet I did.. come on, say you came here cause of the title..

Anyway, its not a cheap shot to get traffic but just a topic I want to blog about.

My mom called me this morning to ask me to book ticket for her to fly back to Malaysia. I thought something bad happened and she said that my aunt wanted to commit suicide. Later in the evening when I came back, I asked her whats up.

She said that my cousin is going out with a guy (supposedly this bad dude) whom my aunt disapproved of. In protest, she wanted to commit suicide. My mom said that this aunt had been saying she wanted to commit suicide since she was young for one reason or the other. I think its just her outlook of life.

I don’t believe in suicide. I believe it might be a permanent solution to a temporary problem which can probably be solved with time. Anyway, I told my mom to tell my aunt that if she died, then who is going to take care of my cousins? Would she had done what she set out to do by committing suicide? I hope it appeals to her logical self.

Then my mom reminded me that one of my cousins from the dad’s side of the family committed suicide for a stupid reason. He jumped off the building after his then girlfriend (probably just “ex-girlfriend”) refused to open her door to him. He threaten to jump and he did. *slaps forehead*… What was he thinking?

This reminded me of the innocent victims in the latest Virginia University shooting a few days ago. The guy is a bit like my cousin who jumped. Apparently I think he couldn’t take it after his girlfriend ditched him and then he shot her, her residential adviser and other people.

I think if you want to do stupid things like committing suicide, don’t hurt other people.
