Instant Noodles

24 Apr 2007 - Under General By Mandrake

Face it, this is the staple food of the world. How can the world survive without instant noodles?

Pasta is a form of instant noodles, you just need water and a bit of olive oil, salt or garlic and you are done.

One of my fav dry instant noodles is Indomee. Its packed full of msg, black sauce and a bit of chilli. Many attempts have I made to duplicate the taste with ordinary kitchen condiments, but it was unsuccessful. My friend who goes to Indonesia quite often told me that there are lots more variety of Indomee over there. I tried some, but I still like the one sold here best.

When I was in Australia studying, I came across even more variety of Indomee. I think there were about 6 or 7 types and I bought all of them. I stocked them in my room for those rainy days when I don’t really feel like cooking up a storm.

For soupy Indomee, I would cook it normally. For a good day, I would add in some chicken pieces left over from last night. Throw in some fresh chopped spring onions and fried shallot. On a boring day, its just fried shallot. I wish I still have the pics.

I was told that Indomee was actually created to feed the poor in Indonesia. Its sold for less than $0.10 over there. Not sure how true it is though.
