Cabs

18 Jul 2007 - Under General By Mandrake

After my posts on no cab here, I came across two numbers which I can call for cabs. Any cabs from any companies.

These numbers are separated entities themselves and are not related to any cab companies. When you call the number, the guy answering will use the walkie-talkie to ask whether there are anyone around the area I am in and wants to pick up passengers.

The cost of the booking is the same same as if you called the taxi companies, just that its supposed to be faster.

I tried twice and got different result.

The first time I tried it, I was in the CBD at 9.30pm on a weekday. Everyone knows that its the dead zone for the area in terms of cab. The guy answered my call and asked me to call back in 1 min. I did and he told me there isn’t any cab. I must say I like the quickness of the answer even though there wasn’t any cab. At least I know I have to take a bus.

The 2nd time I call was on a Sunday at Marina Square. There was a long queue at the taxi stand and I saw quite a bit of people trying to call cab. I called the same number and got a cab within 2mins. The cab said he will come in 3mins and indeed he did.

I shall try more again and see whether the service is consistant. The taxi driver who took my booking gave me another number to call. He said that that number has about 180+ cabs. If I can’t get a cab, I can tell the operator that I am willing to wait for 10mins and that will increase my chance.
