Hosting

10 Nov 2007 - Under Tech Talk By Mandrake

When it comes to hosting, I had a bad experience before. Before we settled with this current server for Liquidblade, we had a problem with the previous one. If you want to read about it, just browse thru my archive. I just did a search using MSN Live, Yahoo! and Google. My review of them ranked from 10th, 6th and 2nd respectively. It kind of sad if people want to google for your company for hosting and then saw that the next result say you suck.

To date, I haven’t got any take down notice from them yet.

Anyway, from my experience, its important to look for a stable, reliable webhosting company. You don’t want your hosting to be gone the next day when the company ran out of business. For the more experienced people, you know what you are looking for, from bandwidth to the different kind of servers.

Linkworth asked me to do a review for www.webhostingchoice.com and I went to take a look.

The site takes quite a number of hosting packages from different companies and web host to list them down. Besides this, they also break down the various options that the other companies have and allows you to narrow down to what you want for your web hosting choice. Eg, if you want a webhosting package that is US40 and wants 25MB (min) of diskspace, it will list down those that are available. Go give it a try. It does have quite a number of choices for webhosting packages.

What I like is this page: Scams.
There are a lot of scams when it comes to domain and webhosting. Its important for people who wants to register to know what it is. I’ve always told people about the info that is mentioned in this page. Go read it.

Even though some of the webhosting companies are unknown to me, please do a background check on them before selecting them for your web hosting choice. Just enter the name of the company into a search engine and see what comes up.

Another good thing is they also tell people who uses their site to warn them about deals that are too good to be true. Check out their learning center articles. Most of them summarized what I always tell my friends and business associates when it comes to hosting.

Stuff like unlimited bandwidth. Well, its really unlimited, until you hit their limit. Then they will send you an email to stop what you are doing or “upgrade” to another package.

Anyway, go take a look at www.webhostingchoice.com. I wonder if there is one for Singapore.
