How do you punish a person who is not remorseful?

28 Nov 2007 - Under General By Mandrake

That is the question isn’t it?

If you want to teach a person who had done something wrong, your ultimate aim is to make them realised what they had done is wrong and that comes with being remorseful.

If you put someone into prison, yet the person does not feel remorseful or do not want to repent, isn’t it a waste of time and money?
By putting someone into prison, you are taking a majority of their freedoms. They are supposed to use the time to reflect on what they had done.

But what if that someone is not remorseful at all? How would you proceed to educate that someone on what they had done?

Pity? Shame? I have no idea.

I had this problem with one of my colleagues recently. He just refused to see that what he does, all the little things, are actually harmful to the office staff in general.

    It is tough.

I don’t have the answers. Jail is something to force people into reflection I guess. There has to be consequences … but you’re right, doesn’t mean they will necessarily be better afterwards.
