Bak2U

1 Jan 2008 - Under General By Mandrake

I received a copy of the Bak2U software from http://www.bak2u.com for my Sony Ericsson K800i.

Its basically a software that run once in the background everything you restart your phone. If you key in the wrong password, it will send two sms to two numbers that you had specified. One local and one international.

What this does is to allow you to know who had put their SIM card into your phone when you had misplaced it. You can then either call the person up to arrange for a meet up to collect the phone or you can just go make a police report, whichever the person wants from you. I believe its easier to do a meet up and get the phone.

There are two functions in this software alone. One is the bak2u main feature, the sms function. The other is the Eraser feature. What it does is to erase all the info, sms, pictures, mp3s from your phone as well as the memory card. Well, if Tammy and countless others have this feature enabled, then their pictures won’t appear on the net or sold as porn in Malaysia.

I followed the instructions that came with the software and managed to install it nicely. Everything went well, including the test SMSes. Now I feel safer if I lose my phone and I can go out and play and ride bicycles without worrying about discharge….. wait..thats another review for another product.

Moving on..

Although everything went well, I think the instructions need a little cleaning up. The Help section in the software itself says the 1st number is domestic number hence there is no need to put the country code. The 2nd number is for the international number. I won’t know this if I had not read the Help on the phone. The PDF instructions didn’t mention this tiny details.

Like buying insurance for yourself, I hope I don’t have to use this feature.
