My Grandfather Part 3

31 Jan 2008 - Under General By Mandrake

I am not sure whether I blogged about this before, but my grandfather had a very acute business sense.

He brought up my aunts by making pastries to sell. He was taught the in and outs of it by a relative after the 2nd World War when he have a few more mouth to feed. So he start making those with the help of my grandmother.

In the morning, he would wake up early and make them fresh, then in the afternoon, he would deliver them to the coffeeshops in town to sell. He was only home at night.

He realised the importance of having good quality materials for the pastries. Each peanut in the peanut caramel crackers are actually painstakingly selected by hand. Bad ones are throw away. No bad peanuts reach the mouth of the customers.

There was once when a competitor approached the same coffeeshops that my grandfather sells to. The coffeeshop of course choose to sell from both of them. However, my grandfather told the shop, as long as you have other competitors product in your shop, you won’t have mind. The coffeshops relented and henceforth, only sell my grandfather’s products as its of assured quality.

I miss him.
