Costly Update Pricing
I emailed Acer Singapore to check the about the pricing to upgrade the L310 mini computer.
Well, they took 1 week to come back to me (more than 5 working days). I think thats too long for a customer to wait. One or two days is fine, but more than 5 working days is too much.
They came back and told me the cost of upgrading the RAM to 1GB is SGD186. Thats excluding the cost of $80 for labour.
Woh, thats too much now.. I am guessing they are also pegging the cost of the warranty into it, but at a cost of 94% more than the retail price of a piece of RAM?!!?
I checked with hardwarezone price guide and found out that the same RAM only cost me $17. If I upgrade to 2GB myself, that would come to only $70. But of course I would void the 3 years warranty that came with the machine. Decision decision…

Install the RAM yourself.
In any case if the laptop goes haywire and you need to get it fixed, remove the RAM you installed and send them the laptop.
They don’t really care about the RAM slot. That’s because even in PC shows or IT fairs, the distributors themselves install RAM for the customers themselves. The warranty seal is voided there and then actually.
I have a friend who installed a RAM himself and the computer goes haywire ( But the problem doesn’t come from the RAM ). He brought it to acer service center and the person told him that even though he voided the warranty seal, the problem doesn’t come from the RAM therefore, they will cover the repair cost for him.
Just insist that you bought your laptop from the IT fairs and had them install the RAM for you on the spot. Don’t think they will mind as much. I checked my warranty seal, it’s already unsealed ( voided ). However, I’ve still been servicing my laptop as per normal at the service center for the past 3 years.
Ultimate decision still lies with you though.
