Trading library comic books

I recalled quite fondly this process of trading library comic books when I was young.

Long before the library system was computerized, each of us children is given 4 red small cardboard holders that doubles as a library card each. Each holder can borrow a library book for a certain period of time.

Last time if you want to reserve a book, its all manual. You got to go to the counter, fill in a form. When someone returns a book, the title is checked against a list of reserved books.

Anyway, the library is stocked with comics titles like Tintin and Asterix. These books are hot items and its not easy to get them. If you want to read the entire series, you got to put in effort to trade for it.

What happens is you would need to get hold of at least a title from these series. Then when you are done with it, you go to the library but don’t return it. Instead, you bring the book into the library proper and walk around. If you see someone doing the same thing, you can ask the person to show you his collections. If its something you haven’t seen, you can opt to trade one of your titles for his when you return it later.

This is how you can complete a comic series last time. I remember doing this for a while until I’ve read the entire series. Then I just dumped the books at the return bin and the system will go on.
