Moving house
Hmm.. its not easy to move house at all. There are so many things to be properly packed, stored and labelled.
The last time I moved house, it was in 1993 or so. i remembered all I had to do was to go to school in the morning and to go to the new house in the evening. All the boxes are there already and ready to be unpacked.
These time round, its more tedious than that. There is no one to pack except for oneself. I sourced the Internet for a good and cheap mover and most of them quoted me $190 for the one way trip and also inclusive of around 20 carton boxes. Luckily I managed to find one that only charged me $100 and includes 20 free boxes, all new. They even delivered to the old house.
Unfortunately, the amount of stuff to be packed swelled up to 35 boxes at least and the location (non lift floor) added an extra amount. We had to spend two trips to transport the boxes as well as some furniture. All in all, it came up to $250. I think its quite an okay price. I think if I had gone with other movers, it would probably cost $300.
A few things I learnt from the move.
1) No matter how many boxes you estimate you need, always add 20% more.
2) Move the people out of the house before you pack the house. Its easier and there would be more places to store the boxes before the move.
3) There are always some stuff that you forgot to pack. You probably need a few more taxi trips to transport the rest of the stuff.
4) Don’t ask friends to help. They can only help you that much and you don’t really save any money. Get the professional movers to help.
Actually its easier to move from a small place to a bigger place, there would be enough room to put all the stuff. The worse is to move from a bigger place to a smaller place, you got to throw away a lot of things.
One thing good about moving is that one tend to throw away things that are no longer needed. The amount of stuff to be thrown is a lot.

wah that many things ah? i also don’t remember moving so much last year.. this year’s move was exceptionally tiring for me too…
