Divx DVD Player Part 3
Okay, this is the last post I am going to do about the Divx DVD player. This is actually a final review of the player after I’d played it with some movies/shows last night. You can read about the Akai and the LG here and here.
The night before, when I tried the Akai player, it was able to show the movies with no problem. However, I immediately notice that the shows are quite chunky. I am sure the shows are fine as they look alright on the laptop so I guess its the player’s codec which didn’t decode the show that well.
Last night, after I managed to get it to read my external harddisk (need to hold the USB cable up a bit and I don’t know why), the quality of the shows increased a whole lot.
No more chunky videos, in fact, it looks as good as it seems on the laptop. The TV I used was a 32″ 100hz scan line version so its definitely very clear and distinct unlike the one from Akai. Normal TV runs at 50-60hz only.
I bet it looks alright on a good and big LCD TV.
Unfortunately, this also means that the show will look like crap if the initial encoded quality is like crap. I tried and it does show.
In conclusion, you do pay for what you get. A $63 version will let you play your files on the tv (if it does work, not in my case). A $162 version will make sure it works nicely and beautifully.

hi can help me wif tat? i got my dv398h player last week.when i connect my external hd. my player cant detect it. your external hd izzit 2.5 or 3.5 inch?do u have other external power supply for ur external hd? i watch anime and i cant play it in play in my player. does the fault lies in codes in my player? or something is wrong wif my player? help…:(
Hi,
mine is 2.5 external harddisk. I suspect its due to the power consumption. Maybe you plug yours in to another external power supply and see if it detects instantly?
Mine takes from 1min to 5mins to detect so it varies I guess. I haven’t plug in to an external power so far as I’ve been using high capacity USB thumbdrives most of the time.
Mine can get detected most of the time.
