ODAC Part 3
Continues from Part 2.
After the Outward Bound School course, the 15 of us got closer together. In the Annual General Meeting, the 7 of us who joint initially were appointed various posts in the club. I was appointed the vice president. Even though we had our appointments, we all worked together and didn’t let these appointments come between us.
Our trials and tribulations came when its time for us to be the leader when we all became seniors. Our seniors had left the school and the club after graduation. The lot of us had to keep up with the club and make it the best in school.
In the new year, we had a change of teacher-in-charge. Our new teacher came from the PE department which is more or less appropriate since she is in charge of a club with lots of outdoor activities. I knew her as a fierce woman when she takes my class for PE when I was in the first year. Its only after she took over that we got to know her better and she is a more fun teacher actually.
We knew we had a problem with trying to recruit new members in the next year. We need to plan a lot of stuff and set up a booth which will attract more potential members to join. Our teacher in charge managed to get hold of some of our old seniors (read 12 years our senior) to come back and help. And help they did.
With their help, we managed to rigged up a flying fox from the hall roof top (about 5-6 stories tall) using ropes and wooden poles. One of these seniors actually was the first one down that flying fox and he weights around 90kg.
We also rigged a base from the roof tall for abseiling. This is to show off what my club can do and also for us to come down in style. I did my first Australian run down there.
What is an Australia Run down. Basically instead of abseiling the normal way, you grab the rope in a particular manner, walk towards the edge and lean forward till you are perpendicular with the wall. Then you walk down slowly while releasing the rope.
It might sound easy in writing but trust me when I say that its scary when I first do it. But after a while, its alright.
