Chicken Rice

Well, Singapore has lots of chicken rice stalls all over the place. I don’t usually eat chicken rice unless I have nothing else better to eat or I am too lazy to make other choices.

There are some good chicken rice, and then there are some bad ones. There are the mediocre ones and there are the famous ones.

I feel that Tian Tian chicken rice at Maxwell Market is super overrated, to me they are mediocre. There is usually a long queue for it, but I feel that the meat is so so, the rice is also so so only. Two other chicken rice stalls nearby are much better.

One of the best chicken rice is at a neighbourhood coffeeshop. Its at the shop at Telok Blangah Crescent Blk 12. The shop only sells for lunch and if they have left over chicken, they will continue till dinner time. Sometimes, they finished around 7pm.

The meat is succulent, even the roast chicken meat. The chilli also complements the chicken really well. Even the chicken breast, which is usually dry for other stalls, is moist and tender for this one. I bought two chickens back for my dad’s birthday and it was very well received. Recently for my mom’s birthday, my sister-in-law told me that she actually dreamt about the chicken the day before.

Yesterday, I was at ABC market at Alexander to buy dinner for XT and the little ones. After going thru the place two over, I finally decided to try the chicken rice (lazy to make more choices). It was a good choice. Although I only ate it later at night, the taste is still there. The meat is still moist and the chiili is also to die for. The sambal chilli just complements the rice and meat really well. This stall is located near the UOB ATM machine.

Go try these two stalls if you can.
